2019 SUCCESS STORIES

Morgan Newman

Personal Achievement Award Honorable Mention

I have just graduated from North Broward Preparatory School. I am extremely grateful to have had the opportunity to attend such an amazing school and participate on the girls soccer team. I would like to thank all of my teachers, coaches, and peers for always encouraging me to do my best. For the next two years I will be attending Broward College to pursue my academic and athletic career. I am super excited to begin studying Sports Medicine as my major at Broward College. In the future I hope to become a doctor or a physical therapist. Overall, I want to help others on getting back on their feet safely and timely.

Christian Johnson

Team Fellowship Award Honorable Mention

I am currently enrolled in the college of business and information science at Tuskegee University in Tuskegee, Alabama.  I intend to major in finance, and I hope to one day become a Fortune 500 Chief Financial Officer.  I really appreciate Charity for Champions helping me pay for my college education.  I have worked really hard to get into college and to succeed on the football field.  Knowing that Charity for Champions recognizes the hard work I put in, in the classroom and on the football field gives me inspiration, and makes me want to work even harder and to achieve even more!

I want to thank you and your Family for believing in me.  I will make you all proud that you chose me to be a part of your Charity for Champions Family.

Samantha Hernandez

Artistic Achievement Award

I feel very honored to have received the Artistic Achievement Award in recognition of my dedication to marching band and to represent the Charity for Champions organization. I am attending the University of Central Florida in the fall and plan to continue my pursuit in the arts as a member of the UCF Marching Knights. Thank you for supporting my journey in music and for considering me as a worthy candidate for this award!

Emanuel Vilatoro – Fuentes

Team Fellowship Award

I am humbled and honored to be among other phenomenal scholar-athletes selected by Dr. Al DeSimone’s for this scholarship. This scholarship allowed me to coach my youth team in the summer because I was able to take hours off from work. It meant taking my kids to several youth camps within Broward County. While in college this scholarship allows me to workout for my eventual transfer to the United States Naval Academy. I’m currently at the University of Central Florida pursuing a business degree, but at USNA I will be studying engineering. After I finish at the academy, I will be serving in the United States Navy but when finished with my service, I hope to get into politics. I’m also currently working on a project to bring adequate water to my home in El Salvador. Thank you to the whole selection board, Dr. and Mrs. DeSimone and the entirety of the Charity for Champions organization.

Cassidy Sheldon

Academic Achievement Award

Since graduating from Cypress Bay in 2019, I am currently attending the University of Florida, in Gainesville, FL. I am studying applied physiology and kinesiology on the pre-med track and hope to go on to medical school once I graduate. It is an honor to be a recipient of this Charity for Champions scholarship as it acknowledges all of the hard work and time I put into not only the cheer team, but also my academic endeavors. This scholarship will allow me to partake in many opportunities on campus and will help me accomplish my goals for my future. Thank you so much Dr. DeSimone for believing in me.

Personal Achievement Award

Receiving the Personal Achievement Award was a tremendous honor and privilege for myself and my family. I am very grateful to this organization for what it has done for me, and for other student athletes. Dr. DeSimone and his fantastic staff have been incredible since day one and throughout my recovery. I am currently attending The University of South Florida where I am majoring in Business/Finance. This award has gifted me with so much opportunity, and I plan on making the very best of it for my future. I will always be grateful for Dr. DeSimone and his wonderful staff for seeing something special in me.

Brianna Anderson

Athletic Achievement Award Honorable Mention

I am so grateful to achieve the Athletic Achievement Award Honorable Mention from the Charity for Champions scholarship. It is very generous of Dr. DeSimone to give back to students of the community year after year. I will be attending Colorado Mesa University to study Biology. I plan to pursue a career in Dentistry and attend dental school after my four years of undergraduate studies. I have always admired using leadership qualities to help people learn new things which has helped me to grow in sports and as a person. Thank you again for giving back to hardworking scholar-athletes in the community!
