Michael North

Goodwill Scholarship Honorable Mention

As an undergraduate student, I am interested in pursuing a degree in the field of biology or biochemistry. I have already begun my coursework towards that major at Michigan. In addition to coursework in the field of biology, I plan to participate in independent scientific research at Michigan. After graduating from college, I plan to attend either medical or graduate school so that I am able to achieve my goal of becoming a medical research scientist. My aspiration is to research and develop treatments and medications that would have the potential to cure diseases and illnesses throughout the world. I am very proud to have received this scholarship from Al DeSimone’s Charity for Champions. Not only did I receive recognition for my hard work and dedication in high school in front of all of my peers at Cypress Bay, but I will be able to use the scholarship money to help defray the cost of my education and the scientific research I plan to do. Thank you very much for honoring me with this scholarship.

Amber Pristas

Extraordinary Community Service Award Winner

Receiving the Community Service award is such a great honor, and I’m very grateful to be a Charity for Champions scholarship recipient.  I plan on attending the University of Florida, starting the summer of 2016.  Community service has always been a huge part of my life.  Giving back to the community is something I’m very passionate about and plan on continuing in the future.  One of the biggest projects I’ve done was Paint for Amber’s Passion, an event that allowed me to raise around $3,000 for Make-a-Wish.  Most of my volunteer time was probably spent at West Pembroke Pines Optimist where I was a coach for cheerleading.  Working with younger children is something I’ve always wanted to do so this experience was very rewarding for me as well, knowing I was making a difference in their lives.

Thank you to Dr. Al DeSimone, Mrs. Sasha DeSimone and everyone else at Charity For Champions for the special recognition of the Personal Achievement Honorable Mention. The fact that there are people like the Charity for Champions organization that are not only reaching out to high school athletes, but also helping them achieve these goals and dreams is truly amazing. Unfortunately, some of us in this world aren’t able to afford the price of a college education but Charity for Champions is really helping out in making it affordable. It means so much to me and my family that I was given this recognition and help so that I can go off and pursue my endeavors. Once I graduate High School my plans are to go to Suffolk University in downtown Boston, MA.
